What you get in Urdu

A speech model made for Urdu

Urdu speech can be written two ways, and Burncaps asks you once which you want. Our speech service (Microsoft's MAI-Transcribe, run in the EU) writes it best and names the language by itself: on public Urdu test recordings (Google FLEURS) it got about 86 in 100 words and 97 in 100 letters right before any correction, in Urdu letters, in about half a second a clip. Only the sound goes to it, never the picture, and nothing is kept. Or everything stays on your device: a speech model made for Urdu (AI4Bharat's IndicConformer, open source, 138 MB once) got about 79 in 100 words and 92 in 100 letters right on the same kind of recordings. Every word is click-to-edit before you export.

Urdu letters, drawn properly

Urdu words are drawn in Noto Sans Arabic, an open-source face made for Urdu letters and served from Burncaps itself, at the weight of the style you choose. Lines run from right to left, with the first word said at the right edge.

Urdu captions on an English video

Speak English and choose Urdu under Captions in: every line is translated and laid over the same moments, so the captions keep their word-by-word rhythm. The reverse works too, Urdu speech captioned in English.

Who this is for

Urdu creators in Pakistan and the diaspora, and anyone who wants the same video to reach Urdu viewers. Search for "urdu caption generator" and most results upload your video to a server and charge by the month; Burncaps does the work on your own device, so the free videos are not bait: after them you can keep going free with a small burncaps.app mark, or pay $49, once, for none.

Questions, answered plainly

Does it write real Urdu?

Yes, in Urdu letters. When Burncaps hears an Indian language it offers our speech service, which names the language itself and got about 86 in 100 Urdu words right in our test (only the sound is sent, never the picture, and nothing is kept), or a speech model made for Urdu that runs on your own device (138 MB once, about 79 in 100). Every word is click-to-edit before you export.

Can I get Urdu captions on an English video?

Yes. Choose Urdu under Captions in and the lines are translated, keeping the word-by-word timing of the original. The translation sends the transcript text, never the video, and you can switch it off with Keep everything on this device.

Are the Urdu captions drawn in a proper font?

Yes. Urdu words are drawn in Noto Sans Arabic, an open-source face made for Urdu letters, loaded from Burncaps itself. The lines run from right to left, as they should.

Is there a watermark on the free videos?

Not on your first two: they are free with every feature and no mark of ours. After that you can keep going free, and each video carries a small burncaps.app mark in the top corner; Pro, $49 once, gives unlimited videos with no mark, never a subscription.

Does my video get uploaded?

No. The video never leaves your device. On a computer the speech model runs in your browser. On a phone, for a language other than English, or when you ask for a closer transcript, you can choose our speech service instead: then the sound goes to it in short pieces, never the picture, and nothing is kept. The transcript text leaves only for the 30 or 60 second cut, the name check or a translation, and a tick box keeps everything on your device.
