OpusClip review: is it worth it?
We make Burncaps, a rival clip tool, so read this as a competitor's review. Every OpusClip fact below comes from its own pages or from Trustpilot, read on 1 November 2026, and our blind test sets out its method and its limits, including where OpusClip did better.

What OpusClip is, and who it suits
OpusClip is a cloud service that turns a long video into short vertical clips. You upload a file or paste a link (YouTube links on every plan, Google Drive, Vimeo and Zoom links from Starter, Twitch and Loom on Pro), its AI picks the moments, reframes them to 9:16, adds captions and, on paid plans, posts them to your social accounts. Its home page says it is used by more than 20 million creators and businesses, a figure it gives itself.
It suits people who want the whole job done on someone else's server and published from one place: a creator or marketer who works from YouTube links, wants a lot of clips from every video and likes a scheduler. It suits small teams too, since its Pro plan shares seats and brand templates. It suits less well someone who clips many hours a month, because every minute you import is counted, or someone whose footage should not be uploaded at all.
What OpusClip does well
More clips from every recording
In our test OpusClip found 16 to 25 clips in each recording of 9 to 20 minutes, where Burncaps found 3 to 7. We have since raised ours to about one clip for every two minutes of talk, up to 30, but on recordings under about 45 minutes OpusClip still finds more, partly by cutting the same moment in two ways.
Posting, teams and brands
Its Pro plan schedules and posts to several platforms, including Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Pinterest, Threads and Bluesky; Starter posts to YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram. Pro holds up to four brand templates and two users for each pack, up to four users, and Business has unlimited users.
Nothing to run on your computer
The whole job runs in OpusClip's cloud, so an old laptop is no slower than a new one. It takes local files up to 10 GB on Free and Starter and 30 GB on Pro, it tracks moving subjects when it reframes, and in our test every clip came with its own virality score, which Burncaps does not give.
OpusClip prices, credits and the free plan
| Plan | Billed monthly | Billed annually | Credits a month | Watermark | Seats and brand templates |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 60 | Yes, and clips can be exported for 3 days | One template |
| Starter | $15 a month | Not offered | 150 | No | One template |
| Pro | $29 a month for each pack | $14.50 a month for each pack | 300 for each pack | No | Two users a pack, up to four; up to four templates |
| Business | On request | On request | Set per team | No | Unlimited users, custom templates |
One credit is one minute of the original video you import, and unused monthly credits roll over for one more month. Free media expires after 3 days and Starter's after 29 days; Pro has 100 GB of storage. Read on opus.pro/pricing and OpusClip's help centre on 1 November 2026, in US dollars (its own pricing script showed lower prices for some countries when we read it on 24 October 2026). If its page has changed since, it is the authority.
The trial is 7 days of Pro, after which the account becomes Free. OpusClip's help centre says no card is needed in the countries it serves at full capacity, and that videos exported during the trial carry the OpusClip watermark.
Because the meter counts minutes in, the bill follows how much you record; what each band of hours costs is on our OpusClip pricing page.
What reviewers complain about, and what they praise
On Trustpilot, OpusClip has a TrustScore of 4.0 from 512 reviews: 63% give five stars and 20% give one star (read 1 November 2026). We read the 20 most recent one-star reviews on 1 November 2026. Most say support was slow or did not help; about half are about charges after cancelling or about refunds; some are about processing, upload or link failures, and a few about the quality of the clips. OpusClip replied to several that they were about Agent Opus, a separate product of theirs.
The five-star reviews mostly praise how easy it is and the hours it saves turning long videos into short clips, and some praise its support, refunds included. A review platform is not a random sample: people write when something went very well or very badly. We leave Reddit threads out, because we could not check them the way Trustpilot's counts can be checked.
Our blind test: OpusClip and Burncaps on the same recordings
How it was run. On 1 November 2026 we gave OpusClip and Burncaps the same four openly licensed recordings: a 9-minute TEDx talk, a 20-minute two-person podcast recorded on a video call, a 20-minute four-person panel and a 20-minute talk by one speaker. Every setting stayed at its default. OpusClip ran on its 7-day trial and Burncaps on Captions + Clips. From each tool we took its own top three, which makes 12 pairs. A separate AI judge saw only frame sheets with the watermark area blurred on both sides, the transcript, the title and the post text, labelled A and B at random.
What it found. The judge preferred the Burncaps clip in 9 of the 12 pairs (4 of them clearly) and the OpusClip clip in 3 (2 clearly). Our top clips averaged 55 seconds against OpusClip's 74, and 6 of its 12 ran past 75 seconds against 1 of ours. OpusClip used the same moment twice in its top three on 2 of the 4 recordings; we did not. Five of its clips opened mid-sentence, against three of ours; two more opened on a teaser lifted from later in the talk, a hook OpusClip adds on purpose. Both tools picked the same strongest moments in places: the cut, the frame and the words decided the pairs.
Its limits, plainly. We made the test and we wrote this page. The judge was an AI model, not an audience. The two caption styles differ, so the judge could tell the styles apart, though not which tool made which, and a trace of OpusClip's branding survived the blur in one frame. Four recordings is a small sample. OpusClip found far more clips in every recording (16 to 25 against our 3 to 7 that day); our count has since gone up, but OpusClip still finds more on recordings under about 45 minutes. Both tools wrote some post text with facts the speaker never said, three of OpusClip's 12 and two of ours, and we have since added a check that holds ours to what was said. It was one day's run of each product as it was then.

|---|---|---|

When to keep OpusClip, and when Burncaps fits
Keep OpusClip if
You work from YouTube or other links, want clips posted on a schedule, share an account with a team, want AI b-roll or a virality score, have recordings longer than three hours, or clip less than about two and a half hours a month, where its Starter plan at $15 is the smaller bill. It is built for those jobs and we are not.
Burncaps fits if
Your footage should stay with you: the video never leaves your browser, on a computer or a phone, and only the sound may go to our speech service (on a phone unless you switch it off, on a computer only if you choose it), and the transcript text, never the picture or the sound, goes to our AI to find the clips; ticking Keep everything on this device stops both. Burncaps lists the stretches of a talk that start where a thought starts and end where the speaker finished a point, ranks them, and cuts each to 9:16 on whoever is talking, with captions, an opening card and the sound at -14 LUFS.
What Captions + Clips costs, and why it pays
Captions + Clips is $29 a month with no minute meter: each recording can be up to three hours, and the only hours counted are those of our speech service (20 in any 30 days), while English on a computer is heard on your own device without a limit. At 20 hours of recordings a month, that is $29 against $116 for four of OpusClip's Pro packs billed monthly. Clip finding has a safety limit for any 30 days, as on every plan. Before you pay, Free gives 2 videos every 30 days, each with captions and up to 3 clips, and the 7-day trial needs no card.
Questions, answered plainly
What is OpusClip?
An AI tool that turns long videos into short vertical clips in its own cloud: you upload a file or paste a link, it picks the moments, reframes them to 9:16, adds captions and, on paid plans, can post them to your social accounts. Its home page says more than 20 million creators and businesses use it, a figure it gives itself (read 1 November 2026).
Is OpusClip free?
It has a free plan: 60 credits a month (one credit is one minute of the video you import), clips with an OpusClip watermark, and clips that can be exported for 3 days. Watermark-free exports start on Starter, $15 a month, billed monthly only (opus.pro/pricing, read 1 November 2026).
How much is OpusClip?
As its pricing page stated on 1 November 2026: Free, $0; Starter, $15 a month, billed monthly only, with 150 credits; Pro, $29 a month billed monthly or $14.50 a month billed annually for each pack of 300 credits; Business, priced on request. One credit is one minute of the video you import, so the bill follows how much you record.
Is OpusClip worth it?
Yes, if you work from YouTube links, want many clips and scheduled posting, or clip less than about two and a half hours a month. Less so if you clip many hours a month (20 hours is four Pro packs, $116 billed monthly) or your footage should not be uploaded. In our blind test a judge preferred the Burncaps clip in 9 of 12 pairs, though OpusClip found more clips in every recording.
Is OpusClip legit and safe?
It is a real, widely used product, rated 4.0 on Trustpilot from 512 reviews (read 1 November 2026); the common one-star complaints are slow support and charges after cancelling, so read its cancellation steps first. For your footage: OpusClip works on video uploaded to its cloud, where free media expires after 3 days and Starter's after 29. If a recording should not leave your computer, use a tool that works in your browser, as Burncaps does.
Does OpusClip add a watermark?
On its free plan and during its 7-day Pro trial, yes: OpusClip's help centre says videos exported during the trial include its watermark. Starter, Pro and Business export without one. Burncaps puts no watermark on anything: not on Free (2 videos every 30 days, each with captions and up to 3 clips), not in its 7-day trial with no card, not after it.

Burncaps facts, checked 1 November 2026
What it is: a browser tool that burns animated word-by-word captions into a talking video, or finds the best moments of a talk, podcast or interview and gives them back as ranked, captioned 9:16 clips.
Price: free for 2 videos every 30 days, each one recording with its captioned video and up to 3 clips, no mark and no sign-up; then the free 7-day Captions + Clips trial, no card (your email only); then Captions + Clips, $29 a month, gives unlimited clips and captioned videos, or Captions, $9.98 a month or $49 once, gives unlimited captioned videos. Captions paid once is not a subscription.
Privacy: the video never leaves your browser. The sound goes only to our speech service, on a phone unless you switch it off, on a computer only if you choose it. Because the video never reaches us, we cannot keep it or train AI on it, and we train no AI on anything you make.
Files: MP4 or MOV in, MP4 out. Captions on the whole video: up to ten minutes. Clips: up to three hours, on a phone or a computer. SRT, VTT, ASS and text files are free without limit for recordings up to ten minutes; a longer recording, up to three hours, gives its script and those files (the first ten minutes free, all of it as one of your free videos, in the trial or with Captions + Clips or Captions) and its clips (every one found and shown before you sign up; up to 3 from each free video exported free, every one in the trial or with Captions + Clips).
Clips: about one clip for every two minutes of talk, up to 30, ranked, the ones we would post first circled, each showing the words it opens and ends on and the reason it was chosen; each cut to 9:16 with ums and dead air removed, an opening card and captions, framed on whoever is talking. Every clip of the whole recording is found and shown, free and with no sign-up; each free video exports up to 3 of them, and the 7-day trial and Captions + Clips export every clip, unlimited.
Languages and styles: captions in the language spoken, twelve Indian languages heard on your device, translation into 59 languages, 60 caption styles.
After it listens: correct any word (one click changes it everywhere), add or cut words, one to six words at a time, position, size, text and highlight colours, and names this browser remembers, all free and without listening again.
