The TikTok font is TikTok Sans: what it is, and captions in it
The font TikTok uses is TikTok Sans, its own typeface. TikTok released it as a free, open-source font under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, and calls it the core font behind the app, from text overlays on videos to the whole interface. Below: what TikTok says about it, where to get it, and five Burncaps caption styles drawn live in TikTok Sans, which you can burn into your own video free. This page is about the font for video captions; it is not a "font generator" for bios or usernames.
The video never leaves your browser. On a computer, the sound is heard on your own device unless you choose our speech service; on a phone, it goes to our speech service unless you keep it on the phone. The service gets short pieces of sound, never the picture.

What TikTok says about TikTok Sans
Everything in this table is from TikTok's own pages and Google Fonts' listing, read on 3 November 2026.
| The question | What the source says, and where |
|---|---|
| What it is | TikTok's "custom typeface" and "the core font behind the TikTok experience", used from text overlays on videos and images to the whole interface (TikTok for Developers blog, by TikTok Design, July 2025) |
| In the TikTok app | Offered in the app as "Classic", "Bold", "Oblique" and many other font options (TikTok for Developers blog) |
| In videos | "the default font used in millions of TikTok videos" (TikTok's README on GitHub) |
| Who made it | Designed and engineered by Grilli Type, Contrast Foundry and Type Network; produced and maintained by TikTok (TikTok's README on GitHub) |
| The licence | SIL Open Font License, Version 1.1; TikTok's post says you can use it in any project, even beyond TikTok, and modify and build on it (TikTok's README and blog post) |
| Letters and languages | Latin, Greek and Cyrillic letters; TikTok's README says it covers more than 460 languages, and that Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, Urdu, Bangla, Thai, Khmer, Burmese, Chinese, Japanese and Korean are supported by the TikTok app but not by TikTok Sans (TikTok's README on GitHub) |
| Weights and widths | A variable font with weight, width, slant and optical size axes; Google Fonts' listing gives weights from 300 to 900 and widths from 75% to 150% (TikTok's README; Google Fonts) |
Where these facts come from
TikTok for Developers, TikTok Sans: Now a Free and Open-Source Font (by TikTok Design; the page is dated 10 July 2025 in its own data, and shows no date), TikTok's repository github.com/tiktok/TikTokSans (its README), TikTok's font site tiktok.com/font and TikTok Sans on Google Fonts, all read on 3 November 2026. TikTok may change its app's fonts at any time; its own pages are the authority.
Five caption styles in TikTok Sans, drawn live
Each card is a Burncaps style that is set in TikTok Sans, drawn on this page by the same caption engine that burns your video, never a picture of one. Every style is included in every video, free or paid.
| Style | Family in the editor | Weight | How it looks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Native | Boxed | 600 | Black words in a white box with rounded corners, up to six at a time, like a text box made in a phone's video app |
| Loud | Bold | 900 | Capitals, two words at a time, the word being said larger and in yellow, with a thick black outline |
| Lowercase | Minimal | 600 | White, all in lower case, with a soft shadow, four words at a time |
| Ocean | Karaoke | 800 | White words that fill with sky blue as they are said, with a dark blue outline, four at a time |
| Bubble | Boxed | 700 | Dark words in a white rounded box, the word being said in purple, five at a time |
Any other style, in TikTok Sans
Burncaps has 60 caption styles. In the Style tab, under the styles, Make it your own sets the font of any of them; choose TikTok Sans and the style is drawn in it, at weight 700. Words in Cyrillic, Greek and Vietnamese are drawn in TikTok Sans too. Words in Devanagari, Arabic, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Gurmukhi or Odia script, which TikTok Sans does not cover, are drawn in the Noto Sans face for that script, so a Hindi or Arabic caption still reads.
Where to get TikTok Sans
TikTok's repository
The source and the licence are on github.com/tiktok/TikTokSans, TikTok's own GitHub account. Its README links to the other two places below.
Google Fonts
TikTok Sans on Google Fonts is where TikTok's README and blog post send you to download it, for a computer or a website.
TikTok's font site
tiktok.com/font shows the font, its widths and its specimen, with links to Google Fonts and GitHub.
What the licence lets you do
The SIL Open Font License 1.1 lets anyone use, study, change and share the font, and bundle it with software, but not sell the font on its own. It does not cover what you make with it: a video with captions in TikTok Sans is yours. Burncaps does not offer the font for download; to caption a video in it, you install nothing, because the editor loads it itself. The licence of every caption font we serve, TikTok Sans among them, is published with them.
How to caption a video in TikTok Sans
- Drop the video. An MP4 or MOV up to ten minutes and 1.2 GB. It opens in this page and is never uploaded to us.
- Let it listen. Burncaps writes down every word and times it; correct any word with a click, and one click changes it everywhere it was heard.
- Pick a TikTok Sans style. In the Style tab choose Native, Loud, Lowercase, Ocean or Bubble, or any other style with TikTok Sans set under Make it your own.
- Shape it for TikTok. In the More tab, Shape, choose Vertical 9:16 if your video is not vertical already (change a video's aspect ratio).
- Export. The captions are burned into a new MP4, ready to post. Free for 2 videos every 30 days, with no watermark.
Burned-in captions are part of the picture, so they look the same on every phone. TikTok's own captions, switched on in the app, are a separate feature: how to add captions on TikTok covers them. Burncaps is not made, approved or endorsed by TikTok, and a font does not make a video perform better.
A long video? Get the clips too
From a podcast, a stream or a talk, Burncaps finds the moments worth posting and gives them back as ranked, captioned 9:16 clips, in the same styles and fonts. Every clip of the whole recording is found and shown, free and with no sign-up; each free video exports up to 3 of them, and the 7-day trial and Captions + Clips export every clip, unlimited. Long video to Shorts says more.
Free: 2 videos every 30 days, each with captions and up to 3 clips, no watermark, no sign-up. Then try Captions + Clips free for 7 days, no card. Captions + Clips is $29 a month for unlimited clips and captions; Captions is $9.98 a month or $49 once.
Questions, answered plainly
What font does TikTok use?
TikTok Sans, TikTok's own typeface. TikTok's developer blog, read on 3 November 2026, calls it the core font behind the TikTok experience, from text overlays on videos and images to the entire interface, and its README on GitHub calls it the default font used in millions of TikTok videos.
Is the TikTok font free to use?
Yes. TikTok released TikTok Sans under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, which lets anyone use, change and share it, and bundle it with software, but not sell the font on its own. TikTok's post says you can use it in any project, even beyond TikTok. The licence does not cover what you make with it, so a video captioned in it is yours.
Where can I download the TikTok font?
From TikTok's own links: its repository at github.com/tiktok/TikTokSans, TikTok Sans on Google Fonts, and tiktok.com/font. Burncaps does not offer it for download; to caption a video in it, you install nothing, because the editor loads it itself.
What is the TikTok Classic font?
TikTok's developer blog says TikTok Sans is available in the TikTok app as "Classic", "Bold", "Oblique" and many other font options. So the Classic text in the app is set in TikTok Sans, by TikTok's own account.
Can I add captions in the TikTok font to my video?
Yes. Drop the video on this page and pick Native, Loud, Lowercase, Ocean or Bubble, the five Burncaps styles set in TikTok Sans, or set TikTok Sans on any of the 60 styles under Make it your own. The captions are burned into a new MP4 in your browser, free for 2 videos every 30 days with no watermark.
Does TikTok Sans work for Hindi, Arabic or Chinese?
No. TikTok's README says TikTok Sans covers Latin, Greek and Cyrillic letters, and lists Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, Urdu, Bangla, Thai, Khmer, Burmese, Chinese, Japanese and Korean as supported by the TikTok app but not by the font. In Burncaps, a word in Devanagari, Arabic or another Indian script under a TikTok Sans style is drawn in the Noto Sans face for that script.
Is this a TikTok font generator for my bio?
No. Font generators for bios and usernames swap letters for look-alike symbols. This page is about TikTok Sans, the real font, and about burning captions in it into a video.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Burncaps opens the video in your browser and never receives it. On a computer, the sound is heard on your own device unless you choose our speech service; on a phone it goes to our speech service unless you keep it on the phone (short pieces of sound, never the picture, to Microsoft's speech recognition in the EU, which by Microsoft's terms for the service stores none of it).
Burncaps facts, checked 3 November 2026
What it is: a browser tool that burns animated word-by-word captions into a talking video, or finds the best moments of a talk, podcast or interview and gives them back as ranked, captioned 9:16 clips.
Price: free for 2 videos every 30 days, each one recording with its captioned video and up to 3 clips, no mark and no sign-up; then the free 7-day Captions + Clips trial, no card (your email only); then Captions + Clips, $29 a month, gives unlimited clips and captioned videos, or Captions, $9.98 a month or $49 once, gives unlimited captioned videos. Captions paid once is not a subscription.
Privacy: the video never leaves your browser. The sound goes only to our speech service, on a phone unless you switch it off, on a computer only if you choose it. Because the video never reaches us, we cannot keep it or train AI on it, and we train no AI on anything you make.
Files: MP4 or MOV in, MP4 out. Captions on the whole video: up to ten minutes. Clips: up to three hours, on a phone or a computer. SRT, VTT, ASS and text files are free without limit for recordings up to ten minutes; a longer recording, up to three hours, gives its script and those files (the first ten minutes free, all of it as one of your free videos, in the trial or with Captions + Clips or Captions) and its clips (every one found and shown before you sign up; up to 3 from each free video exported free, every one in the trial or with Captions + Clips).
Clips: about one clip for every two minutes of talk, up to 30, ranked, the ones we would post first circled, each showing the words it opens and ends on and the reason it was chosen; each cut to 9:16 with ums and dead air removed, an opening card and captions, framed on whoever is talking. Every clip of the whole recording is found and shown, free and with no sign-up; each free video exports up to 3 of them, and the 7-day trial and Captions + Clips export every clip, unlimited.
Languages and styles: captions in the language spoken, twelve Indian languages heard on your device, translation into 59 languages, 60 caption styles.
After it listens: correct any word (one click changes it everywhere), add or cut words, one to six words at a time, position, size, text and highlight colours, and names this browser remembers, all free and without listening again.
