Burncaps hears when every word starts and ends, then draws the captions so the word being said lands, grows or changes colour at that very moment. Twenty animated styles, burned into a new MP4 in your browser, and the video is never uploaded.
Live preview, rendered on this page by the same engine that burns your video.
OpenAI's Whisper model listens in your browser, or our speech service if you choose it, and gives every word a start and an end time. The words open as a script under the video, and any word can be corrected with a click.
Words are gathered into captions of one to six words, your choice. A new caption starts at the end of a sentence, after a pause of about a second, or at that number of words, so a line never runs on past a thought.
For each frame, the caption engine knows which word is being said and draws it in its highlight. The preview and the export use the same engine, so the MP4 shows exactly what you watched before you pressed Export.
The timing comes from the speech model, and it is closest on clear speech. Music under the voice, two people talking at once or a word swallowed at the end of a breath can shift a word's moment a little. Correcting a word fixes what it says. For a strong accent or a noisy room on a computer, Max accuracy in Listening settings is free, a 1.4 GB download once.
| Style | How the word being said is shown |
|---|---|
| Karaoke | Each word turns green as it is said and stays lit, so the line fills from left to right |
| Keyword | Heavy capitals, each word landing as it is said, and the word that carries the meaning in a colour that changes from phrase to phrase |
| Pop | The spoken word grows and lights up, then settles back to white |
| Spotlight | Centred in the frame: words not yet said wait as faint ghosts and turn mint as they are spoken |
| Underline | A violet bar slides under the word being said, which grows a little |
| Weight | Quiet lower case: each word turns from light to bold as it is said |
| Ink | The line sits on a light bar and the words ink in as they are said |
| Tall | Tall condensed capitals, one or two words at a time, rising in |
| Lime | The spoken word turns lime with a green halo and bounces |
| Beast | Outlined capitals, the word being said in yellow with a pop |
| Typewriter | The line types itself out as the words are said, behind a yellow caret |
| Editorial | A clean sans, with the word that matters in a larger serif italic |
| And eight more | Pill, Neon, Fire, Boxed and Bounce mark the word being said; Clean, Lower Third and Native show the line plainly until you set a colour for the word being said or switch on Words appear as they are said |
Every style is in the free videos, and the text colour and the colour of the word being said can be set over any of them.
Free to use: two videos every 30 days with no mark, or $49 once for unlimited videos. The free videos have every style and every feature, and the subtitle files are free without limit for videos up to ten minutes.
An SRT or VTT file times each caption line, not each word, so a player shows the whole line at once. The ASS file Burncaps writes carries the time of every word as karaoke tags (a length in hundredths of a second before each word), which Aegisub, VLC and mpv read to light the words in turn. Where you want the animation itself in the picture, for a feed or a phone, burn the captions into the MP4.
Captions that follow the voice one word at a time: a short line of a few words is on screen, and the word being said is marked at the moment it is spoken, by a colour, a size, a bar under it or by appearing. They need the start and end time of every word, not only of every line.
Burncaps gives two free videos every 30 days with every feature and no watermark, all twenty styles included, with no account. After those, Pro is $49 once for unlimited videos, also with no watermark, or the two free videos come back when the 30 days are up.
Yes. Words at a time goes from one to six, and every style follows it. Switch on Words appear as they are said and each word fades in when it is spoken, on any style; with Clean, that is plain white words, one at a time.
Yes. Over any of the twenty styles you can set the colour of the text and the colour of the word being said, and move the captions up or down and make them bigger or smaller. None of it needs the video to be heard again.
Yes. Burncaps hears and times the words in the language spoken, from 37, and can translate the captions into another of them. A translation is shown in short pieces over the time of the words it translates, so it still follows the speaker.
Yes. The ASS file carries the time of every word as karaoke tags, for Aegisub, VLC or mpv. SRT and VTT time each caption line, not each word. All of them are free without limit for videos up to ten minutes.
What it is: a browser tool that burns animated word-by-word captions into a talking video, or cuts it to its best 30 or 60 seconds.
Price: free with every feature, for two videos every 30 days with no mark; Pro, $49 once, gives unlimited videos with no mark. Pro is not a subscription.
Privacy: the video never leaves your browser. The sound leaves only if you choose our speech service.
Files: MP4 or MOV up to ten minutes in; an MP4 with the captions burned in out. SRT, VTT, ASS and text files are free without limit for recordings up to ten minutes. A longer recording, up to 90 minutes on a computer, gives its script and those files: the first ten minutes free, all of it with Pro.
Languages and styles: captions in the language spoken, twelve Indian languages heard on your device, translation into 37 languages, 20 caption styles.
After it listens: correct any word (one click changes it everywhere), add or cut words, one to six words at a time, position, size, text and highlight colours, and names this browser remembers, all free and without listening again.
