AI reel maker for a talk you filmed: the best moments, as captioned Reels
Burncaps finds the best moments of a talk, podcast or interview you filmed and gives each back as a captioned Reel, 9:16 or 4:5, with a title, a caption and 3 to 5 hashtags to copy. It does not make Reels from photos, a prompt or stock footage, and it has no music library: it works from your own recording, which is never uploaded to us. Free: 2 videos every 30 days, each with captions and up to 3 clips.
The video never leaves your browser. On a computer, the sound is heard on your own device unless you choose our speech service; on a phone, it goes to our speech service unless you keep it on the phone. The service gets short pieces of sound, never the picture.
- 9:16 or 4:5 Reels
- No watermark
- Video never uploaded
Live preview, rendered on this page by the same engine that captions your Reels.
Two kinds of AI reel maker
Half the tools called an AI reel maker make a new video from words, photos or stock clips. The other half cut Reels from a video you already filmed. Burncaps is the second kind, made for people talking.
| What you want | Burncaps |
|---|---|
| The best moments of a talk, podcast, lesson or interview you filmed, as Reels | Yes: found, ranked, cut, framed and captioned |
| Captions timed word by word to the voice | Yes, in 60 styles, burned into the picture |
| The post text: a title, a caption and hashtags | Yes, when our AI picked the clips: 3 to 5 hashtags, ready to copy |
| A Reel made from a text prompt, photos or stock footage | No |
| Music, an AI voice or an AI presenter | No: the clip keeps your own voice and sound |
| Clips of gameplay or music | No: it reads what is said, so it suits talking videos |
| Posting to Instagram for you | No: you post the MP4 yourself |
How to make Reels from your video
- Drop the recording. An MP4 or MOV of someone talking, up to three hours, on a phone or a computer. It opens in your browser and is never uploaded to us.
- Choose Clips under What you get back. A recording over ten minutes opens on its clips by itself.
- Pick from the ranked clips. About one clip for every two minutes of talk, up to 30, best first, each 30 seconds to two minutes of speech, with the reason it was chosen. Click any word in the script to correct it, or to cut it or keep it in the clip.
- Set the frame. Vertical 9:16 for Reels, or Portrait 4:5, which the editor offers for Instagram and Facebook feeds. Fill keeps the frame on whoever is talking, Fit shows the whole picture with its colours blurred behind, and Split puts two people one above the other.
- Export, then post. Each Reel is an MP4 with ums and dead air cut, an opening card, word-by-word captions and the sound at -14 LUFS. Copy the title, then the caption with its hashtags, and post it in Instagram.

What Instagram takes for a Reel
| Instagram's help says | What Burncaps exports |
|---|---|
| A reel's shape can be anywhere from 1.91:1 to 9:16 | 9:16 at 1080 x 1920, or 4:5 at 1080 x 1350; both inside that range. Square 1:1 and the original shape are there too |
| At least 30 frames a second and 720 pixels | 1080 pixels wide, at your recording's own frame rate, so film at 30 frames a second or more |
| Reels can be recorded and edited up to 20 minutes, but Reels over 3 minutes are not recommended to new audiences | Clips of 30 seconds to two minutes of speech as found; Trim makes one up to three minutes and reads its length as you drag |
| A cover photo of 420 x 654 pixels is recommended | No cover: choose a frame of the Reel as its cover in Instagram |
Instagram's own pages differed on length that day: its help centre says up to 20 minutes, while its Reels feature page still says multi-clip videos up to 3 minutes.
How many Reels from one recording
About one per two minutes
A 30-minute talk gives about 15 clips; an hour, up to 30. Every clip of the whole recording is found and shown, ranked, the ones we would post first circled.
Each from one stretch
Each clip starts where a thought starts and ends where the speaker finished the point. It can open on its strongest line, then play from the start, and by default it ends with a clean cut on the last word, so it loops.
Free, then unlimited
Each free video exports up to 3 of them, and the 7-day trial and Captions + Clips export every clip, unlimited.
Already cut the Reel? Instagram's Edits app
Instagram has its own video app, Edits, for iPhone and Android, signed in with your Instagram account. Its help says it generates captions for the speech in a video: open a project, tap Captions, choose the language spoken and a style, then tap Generate Captions, and edit them after. Its site promises exports with no watermark. If you have already cut your Reel and only want captions, it is a sensible place to start.
Burncaps is for the step before: finding the Reels in a long recording, cutting and framing each one, and captioning them together, in a browser on a phone or a computer. For captions on one short video you made yourself, see Instagram Reels captions.
Where these facts come from
Instagram's own pages, read on 3 November 2026: Reel size and aspect ratios, Record a reel, Instagram Reels, How to start using Edits, How to add text to your video on Edits and edits.instagram.com. Instagram changes often, so we recheck them by 3 December 2026.

Questions, answered plainly
What does an AI reel maker do?
There are two kinds. Some make a new video from a text prompt, photos or stock footage. Others, like Burncaps, cut Reels from a video you already filmed: they find the best moments, frame them for a phone screen and caption them.
Can Burncaps make a Reel from photos or a text prompt?
No. It works only from a video of someone talking that you filmed or have the right to use. It has no music library, AI voices or AI presenters, and it does not add footage that is not in your recording.
How long can an Instagram Reel be?
Instagram's help says you can record and edit Reels of up to 20 minutes, and that Reels over 3 minutes are not recommended to new audiences; its Reels feature page still says up to 3 minutes (both read 3 November 2026). Burncaps finds clips of 30 seconds to two minutes of speech, and Trim makes one up to three minutes.
What size is an Instagram Reel?
Instagram's help says a reel can be any shape from 1.91:1 to 9:16, at least 720 pixels and 30 frames a second. Burncaps exports 9:16 at 1080 x 1920 or 4:5 at 1080 x 1350, at your recording's own frame rate.
How many Reels can I make from one video?
About one for every two minutes of talk, up to 30, so a 30-minute talk gives about 15. Each free video exports up to 3 of them, and the 7-day trial and Captions + Clips export every clip, unlimited.
Is it free?
Yes: 2 videos every 30 days, each with captions and up to 3 clips, with no watermark and no sign-up. Then try Captions + Clips free for 7 days, no card; after it, Captions + Clips is $29 a month for unlimited clips and captions, or Captions is $9.98 a month or $49 once, captions only.
Does it post to Instagram?
No. You get an MP4 for each Reel and, when our AI picked the clips, a title and a caption with 3 to 5 hashtags to copy; you post it in Instagram yourself.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Burncaps opens the video in your browser and never receives it. On a computer, the sound is heard on your own device unless you choose our speech service; on a phone it goes to our speech service unless you keep it on the phone (short pieces of sound, never the picture, to Microsoft's speech recognition in the EU, which by Microsoft's terms for the service stores none of it). To find clips, the transcript text goes to our AI; ticking Keep everything on this device stops that.
Burncaps facts, checked 3 November 2026
What it is: a browser tool that burns animated word-by-word captions into a talking video, or finds the best moments of a talk, podcast or interview and gives them back as ranked, captioned 9:16 clips.
Price: free for 2 videos every 30 days, each one recording with its captioned video and up to 3 clips, no mark and no sign-up; then the free 7-day Captions + Clips trial, no card (your email only); then Captions + Clips, $29 a month, gives unlimited clips and captioned videos, or Captions, $9.98 a month or $49 once, gives unlimited captioned videos. Captions paid once is not a subscription.
Privacy: the video never leaves your browser. The sound goes only to our speech service, on a phone unless you switch it off, on a computer only if you choose it. Because the video never reaches us, we cannot keep it or train AI on it, and we train no AI on anything you make.
Files: MP4 or MOV in, MP4 out. Captions on the whole video: up to ten minutes. Clips: up to three hours, on a phone or a computer. SRT, VTT, ASS and text files are free without limit for recordings up to ten minutes; a longer recording, up to three hours, gives its script and those files (the first ten minutes free, all of it as one of your free videos, in the trial or with Captions + Clips or Captions) and its clips (every one found and shown before you sign up; up to 3 from each free video exported free, every one in the trial or with Captions + Clips).
Clips: about one clip for every two minutes of talk, up to 30, ranked, the ones we would post first circled, each showing the words it opens and ends on and the reason it was chosen; each cut to 9:16 with ums and dead air removed, an opening card and captions, framed on whoever is talking. Every clip of the whole recording is found and shown, free and with no sign-up; each free video exports up to 3 of them, and the 7-day trial and Captions + Clips export every clip, unlimited.
Languages and styles: captions in the language spoken, twelve Indian languages heard on your device, translation into 59 languages, 60 caption styles.
After it listens: correct any word (one click changes it everywhere), add or cut words, one to six words at a time, position, size, text and highlight colours, and names this browser remembers, all free and without listening again.
