Read on kapwing.com/pricing and its help pages Subscription FAQ (updated 31 August 2026) and How do Kapwing Credits Work? (updated 10 September 2026), on 7 November 2026, signed out, in US dollars. The pricing page opens on annual billing; the monthly prices show after the Monthly switch, and the help page states them. The switch reads "Save 33%", which is Pro's saving ($24 to $16); Business saves about 22% ($64 to $50), our arithmetic. Paid plans are billed for each member of a workspace, and the monthly allowances are for the whole workspace, reset on the first of each month. Plans are subscriptions only, not one-off payments. If Kapwing's pages have changed since, they are the authority.

Is Kapwing free?

Yes, with a watermark and tight limits. This is the free plan as Kapwing's pricing page lists it, row by row.

The watermark

Kapwing's watermark policy (updated 21 May 2026) says a watermark is added to all projects made on the free plan, in the bottom right corner of the export. Its own route to remove it is to upgrade and export again: projects made before the upgrade lose the watermark when re-exported. We do not describe ways around it.

No trial for paid plans

The pricing page says Kapwing does not currently offer a free trial for its paid plans. One help page mentions a week-long trial for businesses interested in more than 7 licences.

No refunds after upgrading

The pricing page says Kapwing does not issue refunds once you upgrade to Pro or Business. You can cancel at any time (help page of 3 December 2025); an annual plan cannot be switched to monthly until its year ends. Its education programme stopped taking applications on 15 December 2022, and we found no student or non-profit price.

Kapwing credits, and what each feature costs

Kapwing's AI features draw on one pool of credits. The rates, from its help page "How do Kapwing Credits Work?" (updated 10 September 2026):

FeatureCreditsWhat 1,000 credits buy (Pro, a month)
Subtitles1 a minute1,000 minutes, about 16.7 hours
Translation2 a minute500 minutes
Repurpose Studio (clips from a long video)2 a minute500 minutes, about 8.3 hours
Dubbing10 for every 30 seconds50 minutes
Lip sync30 a minuteAbout 33 minutes
Text to speech1 for every 100 characters100,000 characters
Clean Audio, Enhance Voice2 and 4 a minute500 and 250 minutes
Split Vocals, Eye Contact10 and 30 a minute100 and about 33 minutes
Video resize4 a video250 resizes
AI image, AI audio4 to 6 an image; 10 a song or sound effectAbout 166 to 250 images, or 100 sounds

What that means for captions and clips

Every use costs at least 1 credit, and the features share one pool, so a month that dubs a video has fewer minutes left for subtitles. Spent only on Repurpose Studio, Pro's 1,000 credits are about 8.3 hours of video a month: $1.92 an hour billed yearly ($16 for 8.3 hours) or $2.88 billed monthly, our arithmetic. Free's 10 credits are 10 minutes of subtitles, once. The credits page and the pricing page agree on these figures: Pro's 1,000 minutes of auto-subtitling and 50 minutes of dubbing a month are the same 1,000 credits.

Where Kapwing's own pages disagree

We read every figure on Kapwing's own pages. On these, two of its pages give different answers; both are here, and the pricing page is the one we use above.

Burncaps facts, checked 7 November 2026

What it is: a browser tool that burns animated word-by-word captions into a talking video, or finds the best moments of a talk, podcast or interview and gives them back as ranked, captioned 9:16 clips.

Price: free for 2 videos every 30 days, each one recording with its captioned video and up to 3 clips, no mark and no sign-up; then the free 7-day Pro trial, no card (your email only); then Pro, $29 a month, gives unlimited clips and captioned videos, or Starter, $9.98 a month or $49 once, gives unlimited captioned videos. Starter paid once is not a subscription.

Privacy: the video never leaves your browser. The sound goes only to our speech service, on a phone unless you switch it off, on a computer only if you choose it. Because the video never reaches us, we cannot keep it or train AI on it, and we train no AI on anything you make.

Files: MP4 or MOV in, MP4 out. Captions on the whole video: up to ten minutes. Clips: up to three hours, on a phone or a computer. SRT, VTT, ASS and text files are free without limit for recordings up to ten minutes; a longer recording, up to three hours, gives its script and those files (the first ten minutes free, all of it as one of your free videos, in the trial or with Pro or Starter) and its clips (every one found and shown before you sign up; up to 3 from each free video exported free, every one in the trial or with Pro).

Clips: about one clip for every two minutes of talk, up to 30, ranked, the ones we would post first circled, each showing the words it opens and ends on and the reason it was chosen; each cut to 9:16 with ums and dead air removed, an opening card and captions, framed on whoever is talking. Every clip of the whole recording is found and shown, free and with no sign-up; each free video exports up to 3 of them, and the 7-day trial and Pro export every clip, unlimited.

Languages and styles: captions in the language spoken, twelve Indian languages heard on your device, translation into 59 languages, 60 caption styles.

After it listens: correct any word (one click changes it everywhere), add or cut words, one to six words at a time, position, size, text and highlight colours, and names this browser remembers, all free and without listening again.
