What Burncaps is, and what it is not

Burncaps is a browser tool that burns animated word-by-word captions into a talking video, or finds the best moments of a talk, podcast or interview and cuts them into ranked, captioned 9:16 clips. It is not a supplement or a fat burner, and it has no connection with burncap.app, a different product.

What leaves your device, and what we keep

From our privacy policy (last updated 2 November 2026), word for word: “We never see your videos. Your video is processed only on your device and is never uploaded.”

The sound, only to our speech service

On a phone the sound goes to our speech service unless you switch it off; on a computer only if you choose it. It goes in pieces of up to 30 seconds, never the picture, through our server to Microsoft's fast transcription in Ireland. Microsoft states that for fast transcription it “does not retain or store the data provided by customers”, and we store none of it either. Microsoft lists MAI-Transcribe-2, the model it runs for us, as a preview, and its pages do not yet say whether these promises cover previews.

The words, only when you ask

When you choose Clips, type names to spell right, or choose a caption language other than the one spoken, the transcript text (never the video or the audio) goes to Anthropic's Claude API. Anthropic processes API data under its commercial terms and does not train on it. We do not store the transcript, and we train no AI model of our own.

What our server keeps

What we keep is counts, stored as salted one-way hashes, and for a paid plan your email, your purchase and up to three signed-in devices (ten with Captions + Clips). One exception, only on Captions + Clips and only if you add your podcast's public feed: our server keeps each new episode's transcript and clips for 30 days.

Visits are counted by Cloudflare Web Analytics, a cookieless counter that cannot identify you, and the page sends step counts with no identifier. If you tapped one of our adverts on Facebook or Instagram, our server tells Meta that the advert led to the page opening, to your browser's first video, and to a trial or a payment (for those two, with your email in hashed form); no Facebook script, pixel or cookie is on this site. Ticking “Keep everything on this device” stops that too, and every request that carries sound or words. The privacy policy lists every request in full.

Check the no-upload claim yourself, in about half a minute

1. Open the Network tab

In Chrome or Edge on a computer, press F12 (Cmd, Option and I on a Mac) and choose Network. Tick Preserve log, because a video dropped on this page opens in the editor on the front page. Then drop a video and let it caption.

2. Read what goes out

Choose Fetch/XHR. The requests to burncaps.app are small, and clicking one and opening Payload shows what it carries: a step name or a random ID, never your file. The large rows are downloads coming in, such as the speech model, once.

3. Read the page's own lock

Click the first row, the page itself, and open Headers. Its Content-Security-Policy, under connect-src, names the only addresses the page's code may connect to. The browser refuses every other address.

You will see no request carrying your video, because there is nowhere for it to go, and no request carrying your sound unless our speech service listened: then you will see pieces of sound going to /api/listen and the words coming back. Every request the page can make, and how to check we are telling the truth in full.

What it costs, and how to stop paying

Free: 2 videos every 30 days, each with captions and up to 3 clips, no watermark and no sign-up. Then try Captions + Clips free for 7 days, no card. Captions + Clips is $29 a month for unlimited clips and captions, or Captions is $9.98 a month or $49 once, captions only.

Free and the trial take no card

Free needs no sign-up and no card. When you reach its limit, the 7-day Captions + Clips trial starts with your email only. We take no card, so nothing is charged and nothing renews: when the 7 days end, your account is back on Free.

Cancel any time

Captions + Clips and Captions monthly are subscriptions you can cancel at any time, from your account on Burncaps or by emailing us. You keep the plan to the end of the month or year you have paid for, and nothing is charged after that.

Money back within 14 days

Email us within 14 days of your first payment, or of buying Captions once, and we refund it in full, for any reason, with no questions asked: a 14-day money-back guarantee. On a yearly price the same holds for every yearly renewal. The terms in full.

Questions, answered plainly

Is Burncaps safe?

Burncaps is made by Jordan Labs Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, company no. 17358646, which you can look up on Companies House. Your video is processed in your browser and never uploaded, which you can watch in your browser's Network tab. Card payments are handled by Stripe, so Burncaps never sees your card details. Is Burncaps legit?

Burncaps is a caption and clip tool at burncaps.app, run by Jordan Labs Ltd, UK company no. 17358646. Payments go through Stripe, every paid plan has a 14-day money-back guarantee for any reason, and support, refunds and data questions go to one address a person reads: hello@burncaps.app.

Is Burncaps a supplement, or the same as burncap.app?

No to both. Burncaps, at burncaps.app, is a browser tool that burns captions into talking videos and cuts their best moments into clips. It is not a supplement or a fat burner, and it has no connection with burncap.app, a different product.

Does Burncaps upload my video?

No. The video is processed only on your device and is never uploaded. The sound goes only to our speech service, on a phone unless you switch it off and on a computer only if you choose it, and the transcript text goes to our AI only when you choose Clips, type names to spell right or pick a caption language other than the one spoken. Does Burncaps train AI on my videos?

No. The video never reaches us, and we train no AI model of our own. The transcript text, when you choose Clips, names to spell or a translation, goes to Anthropic's Claude API, which processes it under its commercial terms and does not train on it, and we do not store it. What other editors' terms say: which video editors train AI on your videos.

Is it safe to pay on Burncaps?

Card payments are handled by Stripe on its own checkout page, so Burncaps never sees your card details. Stripe tells us your email and whether the payment went through, so we can switch your plan on. The free 7-day Captions + Clips trial takes no card at all.

How do I cancel Burncaps or get a refund?

Captions + Clips and Captions monthly can be cancelled at any time, from your account on Burncaps or by emailing hello@burncaps.app; you keep the plan to the end of the period you paid for and nothing is charged after that. SRT, VTT, ASS and text files are free without limit for recordings up to ten minutes; a longer recording, up to three hours, gives its script and those files (the first ten minutes free, all of it in the trial or on either paid plan).

Every clip of the whole recording is found and shown, free and with no sign-up; each free video exports up to 3 of them, and the 7-day trial and Captions + Clips export every clip, unlimited.
